Zendesk AI vs Intercom Fin vs Salesforce Agentforce: Which Bill Do You Actually Get?
Zendesk AI, Intercom Fin and Salesforce Agentforce all sell AI agents "per resolution" in 2026. They mean three different things by it, and at 20,000 conversations a month the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive way to buy is more than four times.
TL;DR: The definition sets the bill — on each vendor's own price list, the same 12,000 AI resolutions cost about $13,600 on Fin, $20,000 on Zendesk and anywhere from $9,900 to $43,900 on Agentforce, depending on which meter you sign.
Methodology & sources
- Rates checked 28 Oct 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page: Zendesk, Fin, Intercom, Agentforce and Service Cloud. List prices in USD; negotiated deals will differ.
- Resolution definitions from Zendesk's billing documentation, Fin's pricing FAQ and Salesforce's Help Agent announcement.
- Performance figures are labelled vendor-claimed or case-study in the text. None is independently audited.
- Disclosure: this is Aissist's blog, and Aissist sells an AI agent that runs on top of all three helpdesks. Aissist appears in one table column with its two published figures and nowhere else.

Zendesk AI vs Intercom Fin vs Salesforce Agentforce: how do they compare?
The three products differ most on what they bill for, not on what the AI can do. All three answer questions, take actions and hand off to humans; the rows below are the ones that change the invoice and the rollout.
| Decision (rates checked 28 Oct 2026) | Zendesk AI | Intercom Fin | Salesforce Agentforce | Aissist |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What counts as a billable outcome | LLM-verified resolution; escalations and "contained" chats not billed | Resolution, procedure handoff, disqualification or routing — one per conversation | Depends on meter: per conversation, per action, or per autonomous resolution | — |
| Price per outcome | $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay-as-you-go | $0.99 ($9.99 per sales qualification) | $2 per conversation; $0.10 per action; $2 per Help Agent resolution | — |
| Seat fee on top | Suite Professional $115/agent/mo (annual), 10 resolutions included per agent | Intercom Advanced $85/seat/mo, or your existing helpdesk; 50-outcome minimum off Intercom | Service Cloud Core $195/user/mo (annual) | — |
| Vendor-stated deployment time | Not published; Forethought agents need "no migration" | "Set up in under an hour" | Help Agent "deployable in minutes"; grounded on Salesforce Knowledge | — |
| 2026 ownership change | Bought Forethought (closed 26 Mar 2026) | Acquired by Salesforce (closed 10 Sep 2026) | Now owns Fin; added pay-per-resolution in July 2026 | — |
| Published performance | 80% automation on messaging at Best Egg (case-study) | 76% average resolution (vendor-claimed) | Self-service resolution doubled at Fisher & Paykel (case-study) | 83% average resolution, 4.8/5.0 CSAT (vendor-claimed) |
Fin's 76% comes from Salesforce's completion announcement; Best Egg's figure from Zendesk's AI page; Aissist's from its homepage. These are not like-for-like: one customer's automation rate, a fleet-wide average and a single-customer anecdote measure different things. Treat the bottom row as a reason to test, not a ranking.
What counts as a "resolution" for each vendor?
Zendesk bills the narrowest outcome, Fin bills a broader one, and Agentforce lets you choose the meter. That single difference moves the bill more than any per-unit price.
Zendesk has billed by resolution tier since 18 May 2026. A conversation is billable only if the AI answered, the customer did not ask for clarification, feedback or a human, and an LLM reviewing the transcript agrees it was resolved. Chats that end quietly but fail the LLM check are "contained" and free. A messaging conversation closes after 2 hours by default; email after 72 hours.
Fin charges $0.99 per outcome, capped at one per conversation, per Fin's pricing page. Outcomes include resolutions but also procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routing. A conversation passed to your team with no outcome is free. Fin's outcome count can therefore run higher than its resolution count.
Agentforce sells three meters, per Salesforce's pricing page: $2 per conversation, Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 (about $0.10 per standard action), or $2 per Help Agent resolution. The conversation and action meters charge whether or not the issue was solved. The resolution meter does not charge when a customer asks for a human, gives negative feedback or walks away. Kishan Chetan, who runs Agentforce Service, told CIO that an escalated case is "not a resolution in our books."
Every vendor in this category calls itself outcome-priced. Read the definition before the number.
What does each cost at 20,000 conversations a month?
At a fixed volume, Fin on Intercom is the cheapest predictable bill, and Agentforce is both the cheapest and the most expensive option. Assumptions: 20,000 conversations a month, 60% (12,000) resolved by AI, 20 human agents, list prices, every resolution billable, Zendesk's 200 included resolutions subtracted.
| Monthly bill (list prices, 28 Oct 2026) | Seats | AI usage | Total | Per resolution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zendesk Suite Professional + committed resolutions | $2,300 | 11,800 × $1.50 = $17,700 | $20,000 | $1.67 |
| Zendesk Suite Professional + pay-as-you-go | $2,300 | 11,800 × $2.00 = $23,600 | $25,900 | $2.16 |
| Intercom Advanced + Fin | $1,700 | 12,000 × $0.99 = $11,880 | $13,580 | $1.13 |
| Zendesk Professional seats + Fin | $2,300 | 12,000 × $0.99 = $11,880 | $14,180 | $1.18 |
| Service Cloud Core + Help Agent resolutions | $3,900 | 12,000 × $2 = $24,000 | $27,900 | $2.33 |
| Service Cloud Core + Conversations | $3,900 | 20,000 × $2 = $40,000 | $43,900 | $3.66 |
| Service Cloud Core + Flex Credits (3 actions per conversation) | $3,900 | 60,000 × $0.10 = $6,000 | $9,900 | $0.83 |

Three things the table hides. If 15% of your resolutions fail Zendesk's LLM check, its bill falls by roughly $2,700. Fin's outcome count includes handoffs and routing, so a team with heavy routing pays for more than 12,000. Flex Credits scale with action count, not with outcomes: an agent that averages six actions per conversation doubles that line to $12,000, and voice uses separate multipliers Salesforce does not list on the page. Core also includes Flex Credits per the Service Cloud FAQ, which we have not netted off.
The Flex Credit row is cheapest on paper and hardest to forecast — which you will discover in the first month a workflow loops.

What changed for each vendor in 2026?
All three products changed ownership or packaging in 2026, and two of them now share a parent. That matters for a three-year contract more than any single feature.
Zendesk announced it would buy Forethought on 11 March and completed the deal on 26 March 2026. Forethought now sells as "Forethought AI Agents by Zendesk," for chat, email and voice, and Zendesk says it works on other helpdesks too. Its price is not published.
Fin, the company formerly called Intercom, agreed to a roughly $3.6B sale, per Salesforce Ben. Salesforce completed the acquisition on 10 September 2026, and Fin now sits in Salesforce AI Labs, alongside Agentforce rather than inside it. Fin still sells on Intercom, Salesforce, Zendesk and other helpdesks. Magnific, which runs Fin on Salesforce Service Cloud and resolves about 18,000 conversations a month with it, reported Fin live within days:
"It felt like Fin was inside Salesforce." — Chema Ruiz, Technical Lead, Magnific (Fin customer story)
Agentforce added the Help Agent and $2 pay-per-resolution pricing, announced 25 June and generally available in July 2026. Salesforce also renamed its Service Cloud editions to Core ($195), Advanced ($395) and Max ($550) per user per month, each bundling Flex Credits.
Salesforce now owns two of the three agents here. Whether Fin and Agentforce converge, and on whose pricing, is the open question for any contract running past 2027.
Which one should you pick?
Pick the AI that matches the helpdesk your humans already work in, then pick the meter you can forecast. Each product is strongest on its home platform.
1. Zendesk AI — pick it if you run Zendesk and want the strictest billing definition. Zendesk AI is the AI agent built into Zendesk Suite, billed per LLM-verified resolution on top of agent seats.
- Pros: only verified resolutions are billed; AI agents are included in every Suite plan.
- Cons: the highest per-resolution list price of the three predictable options; Forethought pricing is quote-only.
- Skip it if your volume is high and price per resolution outweighs billing strictness.
"It has transformed our agents from widget movers into problem solvers." — Corrine Porcaro, Senior Director of Service Quality, Best Egg (Zendesk customer)
2. Intercom Fin — pick it if you want the lowest predictable per-outcome price on any major helpdesk. Fin is an AI customer service agent, sold standalone or with Intercom, billed $0.99 per outcome.
- Pros: lowest flat price per outcome here; vendor-stated setup in under an hour.
- Cons: handoffs and routing are billable outcomes; a 50-outcome monthly minimum off Intercom.
- Skip it if your workflow routes far more conversations than it resolves.
3. Salesforce Agentforce — pick it if your service team already lives in Service Cloud. Agentforce is Salesforce's AI agent platform, billed per conversation, per action or per resolution on top of Service Cloud editions.
- Pros: resolution pricing that excludes escalations and unhappy customers; native access to Salesforce data.
- Cons: three meters to model; the highest seat fee and the widest bill range in this comparison.
- Skip it if you do not already run Salesforce — the seat fee alone is a migration decision.
"Agentic AI has already doubled self-service resolution rates." — Rudi Khoury, Chief Digital Officer, Fisher & Paykel (Salesforce customer)

The resolution definition decides the bill, not the price tag
Zendesk AI, Fin and Agentforce all claim outcome pricing, and all three are telling the truth about different outcomes. Zendesk charges only for LLM-verified resolutions at the highest list rate. Fin charges the lowest flat rate for a broader set of outcomes. Agentforce offers one resolution meter as tight as Zendesk's and two looser ones, with a bill that ranges from $9,900 to $43,900 on the same volume. Before you sign, pull a month of real transcripts, count what each vendor would have billed under its own definition, and price that — not the headline number. If you would rather not tie AI pricing to a helpdesk at all, Aissist vs Intercom Fin shows how an independent layer compares.
Frequently asked questions
Is Agentforce cheaper than Fin?
Per outcome at list price, Fin is cheaper at $0.99 versus Agentforce's $2 per conversation or resolution. In our worked example, Flex Credits undercut Fin only while conversations average fewer than about six actions.
Does Agentforce charge per conversation even if the AI fails?
Yes, on the Conversations meter: $2 per conversation, resolved or not. The Help Agent resolution meter, generally available since July 2026, charges $2 only when the agent resolves the issue autonomously.
Can I use Fin with Zendesk or Salesforce?
Yes. Fin sells standalone on Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot and other helpdesks at $0.99 per outcome, with a 50-outcome monthly minimum outside Intercom. You still pay that helpdesk's seat fees.
How does Zendesk decide what counts as an automated resolution?
Since 18 May 2026, Zendesk bills only verified resolutions: the customer did not ask for clarification or a human, and an LLM reviewing the transcript confirms the issue was resolved. Escalated and unverified conversations are free.
Did Salesforce buy Intercom?
Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin, the AI agent company formerly known as Intercom, on 10 September 2026. Fin operates within Salesforce AI Labs alongside Agentforce.
Zendesk AI vs Agentforce: which is better for a small team?
Seat prices are close — $115 for Zendesk Suite Professional, $100 for Service Cloud Pro Suite — but Zendesk includes AI agents in every Suite plan, while Agentforce is a separate purchase below Core ($195). Agentforce fits small teams already on Salesforce.
