Zoho Desk Alternatives: 6 Help Desks and AI Agents Compared by Price, Ownership and Resolution

The best Zoho Desk alternatives in 2026 are Freshdesk, HubSpot Service Hub, Help Scout, Zendesk, Fin and Aissist.io, and since few of them undercut Zoho's $7–$40 seats, the useful comparison is what each one charges for AI.

TL;DR: Zoho Desk is hard to beat on seat price, so compare Zoho Desk competitors on the AI meter instead: on our 1,200-resolution scenario, published rate cards run from $720 to $2,300 a month for the AI alone.

Methodology & sources

  • G2 scores and review counts come from each product's G2 reviews page; prices from each vendor's pricing page, in USD, annual billing.
  • Zoho's pricing page served Indian rupee prices to our location (₹420–₹2,400 per user/month), so Zoho Desk's USD prices come from Zoho's own comparison pages on zoho.com.
  • Resolution figures are vendor-published and unaudited; deflection is labelled as deflection. "Not published" means we found no average from the vendor.
  • All figures verified 19 October 2026.
  • Disclosure: this is Aissist's blog, and Aissist sells an AI agent that competes with the AI in every product here. No vendor reviewed this page, and we hold no affiliate or paid-placement relationships.

Why are teams looking for Zoho Desk alternatives?

Usability and AI, not price. Zoho Desk is cheap and well rated: 4.4/5 from 8,007 G2 reviews, a free plan for three users, and seats from $7 per user/month, per Zoho's Zendesk comparison page. The complaints are about setup.

"It can be difficult to set up the knowledge base settings the first time." — Gabriel F., IT Intern, Capterra review of Zoho Desk

AI is the second reason. Zoho's pricing page puts token-billed AI agents (30M free tokens a month) on Express and full "Zia AI" only on Professional. Beyond the free tokens, Zoho's Freshdesk comparison page lists $1 per million tokens. Cheap, but a token meter: with no published resolution rate, you can't tell what a resolved ticket costs.

Zoho Corporation is privately held and has never taken venture or private-equity money, Revenue Memo reports. Ownership is not a reason to leave; a vague AI bill might be.

How do the six Zoho Desk alternatives compare at a glance?

Five are help desks you would migrate to; one is an AI layer you add. Two of the help desks offer a free tier.

The 6 best Zoho Desk alternatives

1. Freshdesk — best like-for-like switch

Freshdesk is a Freshworks help desk with the Freddy AI Agent on every plan. Freshworks CEO Dennis Woodside told CX Today that Freddy AI Agent deflection averages 50%, reaching 80% for mature deployments.

  • Pros: closest feature match to Zoho Desk; AI agent included on every plan.
  • Cons: no free plan; sessions are billed whether or not the AI resolves them.

"Freddy AI is heaps forward comparing to the AI offering from Zoho." — Rajneesh B., ITSM Consultant, Capterra review of Freshdesk

Our take: skip it if a free tier is the reason you chose Zoho. Our Freshdesk competitors guide covers it in depth.

2. HubSpot Service Hub — best if you already run HubSpot CRM

HubSpot Service Hub is a help desk built on HubSpot's CRM, with a free tier for two users and Starter seats from $7. HubSpot's pricing page says its Customer Agent resolves "65%+" of conversations automatically.

  • Pros: free and $7 tiers match Zoho; tickets share one CRM record with sales.
  • Cons: Professional jumps to $90 a seat plus a $1,500 onboarding fee; Customer Agent's credit cost per conversation is not on the public page.

Our take: skip it if you have no plans to use HubSpot's CRM.

3. Help Scout — best for small, email-first teams

Help Scout is a shared inbox and help desk with a free plan for five users and AI Answers billed at $0.75 per resolution. Help Scout reports a 73% average resolution rate for AI Answers, counting conversations the customer does not escalate.

  • Pros: per-resolution AI price with a spending cap; three months of free AI resolutions.
  • Cons: paid seats from $25 cost more than Zoho's; the free plan stops at 100 contacts a month.

"The new AI features takes a lot of the anxiety out" — CJ B., Director of Customer Advocacy, Capterra review of Help Scout

Our take: skip it if phone or complex workflows matter more than email.

4. Zendesk — best for scaling past 50 agents

Zendesk is a help desk suite billed per agent, with AI agents charged per automated resolution. Zendesk markets resolution of "up to 80%+", a ceiling rather than an average.

  • Pros: deepest ecosystem here; published per-resolution AI rates.
  • Cons: AI meter stacks on seats; Suite Team at $55 is nearly eight times Zoho Express.

Our take: skip it if your team is under ten agents. Our Zendesk competitors guide compares it further.

5. Fin — best for a proven AI agent

Fin, formerly Intercom, is an AI customer agent that runs on its own help desk or on Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot and others. Salesforce reports a 76% average resolution rate for Fin.

  • Pros: deepest G2 base of any AI agent; transparent $0.99 outcome price.
  • Cons: now a Salesforce product, beside Agentforce; outcomes include handoffs, so spend is hard to forecast.

Our take: skip it if you want a budget help desk rather than an AI agent. See our Intercom alternatives guide.

6. Aissist.io — best for adding AI without a new help desk

Aissist.io is an AI agent layer that resolves support and sales conversations end-to-end on Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Salesforce, HubSpot, Kustomer, Front or Gorgias. Aissist reports 83% average resolution and 4.8/5.0 CSAT.

  • Pros: published per-resolution price with free handoffs; moves with you if you switch help desks.
  • Cons: Zoho Desk is not on its published integration list, and it is a layer, not a help desk; 45 G2 reviews is a thin base, with reviewers asking for deeper reporting and UI customization.

"I'd really appreciate a few more customizable report options for executive dashboards." — Constantina M., Financial Solutions Advisor, G2 review of Aissist.io

Our take: skip it if you are staying on Zoho Desk.

What do these alternatives actually cost?

On the same volume, the AI bill ranges from $720 to $2,300 a month. We ran one scenario through each published rate card: 2,000 chat conversations a month, 1,200 resolved by AI, 10 agents.

VendorAI cost for 1,200 resolutions/month (Oct 2026)
Aissist.ioUp to $720 (chat cap of $0.60; handoffs free)
Help Scout$900 ($0.75 × 1,200), plus seats
Freshdesk$980 (2,000 sessions at $49 per 100, after the included 500), plus seats
Fin$1,188, plus any billable handoff outcomes
Zendesk (Suite Team)$1,725–$2,300 after 50 included resolutions, plus $550 in seats
Zoho DeskNot computable: billed per token, 30M free a month

Zoho may still be cheapest if your volume fits inside the free tokens; ask Zoho for tokens per conversation. Our AI agent pricing benchmark tracks more vendors.

How to choose the right Zoho Desk alternative

  • If you want the closest switch, choose Freshdesk.
  • If your sales and marketing run on HubSpot, choose Service Hub, because the free and $7 tiers keep Zoho-level pricing.
  • If you are a small email-first team, choose Help Scout, because its AI bills only on resolutions.
  • If you will pass 50 agents, choose Zendesk.
  • If AI resolution is the goal, choose Fin or Aissist.io on a help desk they support, sized by price per resolution.

The AI meter, not the seat price, decides this switch

Zoho Desk's $7–$40 seats are hard to undercut, and its G2 score matches Freshdesk, HubSpot and Help Scout. What separates the alternatives is the AI bill: tokens, sessions, outcomes or resolutions. Price your volume on each meter, then pilot two finalists.
